Cookie Policy

This policy explains how the Metabytes website uses cookies and similar technologies, what they are used for and the choices you have about them.

What cookies and similar technologies are#

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit it. They allow the website to recognise your device, keep a session secure or remember a choice you have made.

Similar technologies work in comparable ways. They include:

  • browser storage, such as local storage, which keeps information on your device;
  • scripts and tags that collect technical information about how a page is used;
  • pixels or beacons, which report that a page or message has been viewed; and
  • device or browser identifiers.

In this policy, we refer to all of these as “cookies” unless the difference matters.

How we use cookies#

We aim to use as few cookies as possible and to avoid technologies that are not needed for a clear purpose.

Depending on the page and the choices you make, the website may use cookies to:

  • deliver pages securely and reliably;
  • protect the website and its forms against spam, bots and abuse;
  • remember your cookie preferences;
  • support optional features, such as tools or embedded content; and
  • understand, in aggregate, how the website is used so that we can improve it.

Types of cookies we use#

Strictly necessary

These technologies are required for the website to work and to keep it secure. They may support security, bot and abuse prevention, load balancing and the delivery of pages and forms.

Because the website cannot function properly without them, they do not require consent. You can block them in your browser settings, but parts of the website may then stop working.

Preferences

Where a cookie preference tool is shown, we store your choice in your browser so that we do not ask you again on every page. This record contains your preference and the time you made it, not your name or contact details.

Analytics

We use privacy-focused measurement to understand page usage, traffic patterns, device types and technical performance in aggregate.

Our core website measurement is designed to work without setting cookies on your device. Where we use any additional analytics technology that does rely on cookies or similar identifiers, we will use it only after obtaining consent where applicable law requires it.

Functional

Some optional features, such as free tools, embedded content or enhanced forms, may use cookies or browser storage to work as intended or to remember your settings.

Advertising and marketing

Metabytes does not currently use advertising cookies on the website. If we introduce advertising or marketing technologies in future, we will update this policy and provide notice and choice where required by applicable law.

Third-party technologies#

Some technologies are provided by our service providers, for example for hosting, content delivery, security, measurement or forms.

Where a provider sets or reads cookies, it does so to provide its service to us. Its use of the information is governed by its agreement with us and, where relevant, its own privacy information.

If you follow a link to another website or platform, that website’s own cookie and privacy practices apply.

Your choices#

Where a cookie preference tool is provided, you can use it to accept or reject non-essential cookies and to change your mind later.

You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you:

  • see which cookies are stored and delete them;
  • block cookies from particular websites;
  • block third-party cookies; and
  • clear all cookies and browser storage when you close the browser.

Blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect how the website works, including forms and security checks.

Withdrawing consent does not affect any processing that took place before you withdrew it.

How long cookies last#

Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser.

Persistent cookies and browser storage remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them. We aim to keep these periods no longer than the purpose requires.
